More Accolades for Olean General Hospital
Posted on: 07/18/2013
In April, Olean General Hospital (OGH) was recognized by Healthgrades as one of the nation’s top hospitals for patient safety.
This week, Olean General Hospital was named by U.S. News & World Report in its 24th annual “Best Hospitals” rankings. Olean General ranked 39th out of 204 hospitals in New York State and was one of four hospitals in Western New York to be recognized. To achieve ranking, hospitals must be recognized as “high performing” in a least one of 16 adult specialties. Death rates, patient safety, and hospital reputation were a few of the factors considered.
U.S. News surveyed nearly 10,000 specialists and analyzed data for approximately 5,000 hospitals nationwide. The rankings are intended to help patients and their families identify the best places to seek care within their community and health insurance network.
“Everyone at Olean General Hospital works continuously to improve quality and safety. This and other recent recognition is proof that our efforts are helping us to stand out among our peers. This doesn't happen without the commitment of the entire team from the doctors, nurses and technicians on the front line of patient care, as well as maintenance, housekeeping, supply, dietary, laboratory, IT office staff and all the other employees that patients may never see. We are very proud of the team effort,” said Timothy J. Finan, CEO and President, Olean General Hospital.
“National and statewide recognition is truly an affirmation of the hard work and dedication of all the employees and physicians in their efforts to provide great care to our patients,” said Dennis McCarthy, hospital spokesperson.
OGH recently was recently named among New York State’s “Five-Star Hospitals” in Cleverley + Associates’ 2013 Community Value Leadership Awards.
A leading healthcare financial consulting firm specializing in operational benchmarking and performance enhancement strategies, Cleverley + Associates, evaluates more than 2,700 health care facilities in four key areas: financial viability, costs, charges, and quality performance. The Five-Star rating places OGH in the top 20 percent of these facilities.
“Cumulatively, these awards are indicators that we are doing the right things to ensure patient safety, quality and hospital performance,” McCarthy said.Back to Article List
