Olean General Hospital Foundation Launches Annual Campaign
Posted on: 11/21/2011
The 2011 Annual Campaign has begun and focuses on a commitment by leadership to advance surgical services in the region by building a free-standing outpatient surgery center on the hospital campus at 500 Main Street in Olean. The project is projected to cost $10.3 million and is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2012. Philanthropy is expected to play a major role in helping to finance this important advancement.
This new Outpatient Surgery Center will allow patients to receive their outpatient surgical procedure, and return home the same day. Additionally, this project will aide in the hospitals ability to attract and recruit new surgeons to Olean General Hospital. Hospital officials noted that the current national physician shortage is reaching crisis levels and this center has helped to recruit critically needed surgeons and specialists to the community.
“We have had a wonderful outpouring of support for this project in great part because people in our community understand the transformational impact of this important project”, said Karen Fohl, Foundation President. “I think that M&T Banks matching gift of $150,000 will encourage many to give, and small gifts combined together will have an even more profound impact.”
Significant physician and clinical input was included in the design phase. The planned 22,000-square-foot outpatient surgical structure will include four operating suites, three endoscopic suites, pre-operative, and post-operative recovery areas, waiting rooms, consultation areas, and support space. The hospital currently performs over 7,600 outpatient surgical procedures each year.
